Decolonial/Balkan is a longterm inquiry into the integration of the Balkan region into the capitalist, colonial, modern world-system, beginning in the end of the fifteenth century.

The first event to come out of this inquiry was the 2019 Symposium on Race, Gender, Sexuality and Empire in Southeastern Europe held at the University of Toronto. Co-organized by Miglena Todorova, Sunnie Rucker Chang and myself, this event brought together prominent figures in the scholarly study of these issues in the Balkans to discuss challenges facing this nascent field and potential avenues for intellectual collaboration. As a result of this symposium, I released this collaborative reading list

There is also an edited volume underway, which is being co-edited by Sanja Petkovska, myself and Zoltan Ginelli.

Throughout this process, ideas are shared via the Decolonial/Balkan Twitter page.
